WMW 2011 Privateer Press Panel

DC and Ed of Privateer Press were gracious enough to provide a Q&A panel for the fans of WARMACHINE Weekend. Thanks Josh and others for putting the video together.

WARMACHINE Weekend 2011 Welcomes Ed and DC!

We are proud to welcome Ed Bourelle and David “DC” Carl to WARMACHINE Weekend 2011. Trekking all the way from Seattle, Ed and DC will be hanging out and playing some games and enjoying the festivities. They also will be giving a presentation on Friday night before the start of the 20pt Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw Hardcore event. Get your questions ready and prep your armies to face the two titans from the company.

Ed Bourelle picked up his first miniature at the age of seven and has been playing and creating tabletop games and RPGs ever since. With a background in graphic design, art direction, and illustration, Ed has worked on and led creative teams at design agencies, a software company, and a Fortune 500 telecommunications company. Ed started his own game company in 2001 and began working full time as a freelance artist and writer in the tabletop games industry. During that time he worked as both a volunteer and freelancer for Privateer Press.

In early 2009, Ed accepted a job with Privateer Press and now oversees the creative team behind WARMACHINE, HORDES, Bodgers Games, Monsterpocalypse, and more. His work day consists of planning and critiquing new model concepts, concept art, illustration, graphic design, and miniature sculpts. Somewhere in there he finds time to help move work forward on new products, games, and initiatives with the development and marketing teams.

David Carl, or “DC” as he is known to his friends and family, has been an avid gamer and amateur game developer since childhood. Throughout his career as an electrical engineer, he channeled his passion for the hobby of gaming into freelance work for numerous game companies. In 2008, he took on a full-time position with Privateer Press, his most frequent freelance employer.

During his time at Privateer Press, DC has been actively involved in development for WARMACHINE, HORDES, and Monsterpocalypse as well as working on upcoming games such as the new Bodgers Games Heap and the revamped Iron Kingdoms Roleplaying Game. His most challenging and rewarding project to date was leading the Field Tests for the launch of WARMACHINE and HORDES Mk II.

Help Create a Custom Table for the WMW Finals!

People are always asking us how and where we get these awesome tables and trophies and such. That answer is easy, EXPLOSIVO!!!! No really, Explosivo makes them. Kris Johnson, the guy with the mohawk that's always yelling. That stud that the sportsmanship award is named after. Ya, that's the guy that makes all the stuff.

But that's a crappy answer. It doesn't really help anyone now does it? So it's some guy with mad skills? Great, well how am I supposed to learn how to make that stuff? Here's how!!! Come to WARMACHINE Weekend.

The man himself, Kris Johnson, is designing a table that will be created, built, yes, come to life DURING WARMACHINE Weekend. Players and hobbyists alike will have the chance to contribute to the construction of this table. Maybe gluing together pop-sickle sticks is your thing. Maybe you're into exacto knives and the fine art of inhaling styrofoam toxins, maybe you want to learn how to paint rocks or make buildings look structurally unsound... We'll be doing it right there at WARMACHINE Weekend.

We'll have the plan, the renderings, the supplies, and the expert on hand to create the WARMACHINE Weekend finals table. We'll help guide you in taking your pathetic modeling skills to the next level. Shoot, maybe you’re not pathetic, maybe you rock and want to contribute to the design or offer your own expertise. Thanks. Let's do it. Those that contribute their time will get chances to win something truly bad-ass.

The Invitational finals will be played on this table of your creation, immortalized in the archives of No Quarter. We'll then entrust this table into the hands of a caring steward and the table will return next year to be leaned on, rolled on, spilled on, and generally appreciated in the halls of WARMACHINE Weekend 2012, where we'll make another bad-ass table. Go forth ye hobbyists, learn from Explosivo! himself. Give life to terrain and bring into existence a product of the great Explosivo!'s contrivances.

Let's get sticky!

Another Round of Custom Trophies to be Expected

Each year WARMACHINE Weekend hosts some of the most amazing trophies for the WARMACHINE and HORDES tournament scene in the world. Years ago Carl approached Kris and said something along the lines of "You know what would be kick ass for WARMACHINE Weekend"? And that is where the idea was spawned to do custom awards for the winners of WARMACHINE Weekend who travel the great distances to join us. Kris has been doing a lot of custom retail graphics for various companies with the use of a CNC router over the years and has sharpened his skills for the table top miniatures scene. You never know what he is going to come up with next but it always tops the previous years trophies.

The first year's was were pretty generic in his opinion but everyone still loved 'em. But deep down, Kris knew he could do better. He wanted to paint and power them. The next year's trophy was a compilation of 2 years worth of brain storming, reading painting articles in No Quarter and being observant to colors and textures in the materials he was trying to replicate. After all that, we had some pretty kick ass trophies. Kris was blessed to have the opportunity to make the Grand Master Championship award for Gencon's overall player in 2010. Expect yet again some of the finest quality trophies around for WARMACHINE Weekend 2011.
